The fundraising feats of two brothers from Redditch are being recognised with the highest honour that the Borough Council can bestow at a special civic ceremony which will be streamed live for everyone to enjoy.

Jordan and Cian Adams are renowned for their fundraising efforts for dementia charities and most recently after Jordan ran 33 marathons in as many days in aid of The Alzheimer’s Association of Ireland and The FTD Brother’s Foundation.

Both brothers have a 99.9% risk of developing frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in their 40s and, in raising millions of pounds for Alzheimer's and dementia charities, have become an inspiration to many families affected by the disease.

At a special meeting of Redditch Borough Council the FTD Brothers, will be awarded Freedom of the Borough – recognising their outstanding contribution to charity, Redditch and its community.

It will be held at the Palace Theatre but due to limited capacity at the venue, seats will need to be reserved on a first come, first served basis for anyone who would like to attend.

A live stream link is also available for residents to watch the ceremony unfold in the comfort of their own homes and the Council is working with local pubs to stream this special council meeting too.

Mayor of Redditch, Councillor Susan Eacock will preside at the meeting and present each of the brothers with a scroll once they have been confirmed as Freemen of the Borough.

Cllr Eacock said: "This is the highest civic honour we can award and it is a privilege to recognise the FTD Brothers in this way.

“They have brought pride and positive attention to Redditch and raised the profile of a disease which touches the lives of so many people every day, including families and carers.

“I know many residents will want to join us in celebrating their achievements and I encourage anyone wishing to attend to reserve their seat as soon as possible.

“Our livestream means if you are unable to secure a place at the Palace Theatre you can join us via the live stream so you can still be part of this very special day."

Freedom of the Borough is a historic honour dating back to medieval times, when “freemen” were granted special rights, such as the ability to trade, own property and take part in local governance. Today, the official title of “Freeman” or “Freemen” of the Borough is purely ceremonial but remains the highest distinction a council can award, recognising individuals or organisations that have made exceptional contributions or brought great pride to the borough. In the council’s lifetime this honour will have been bestowed only four times, most recently to 37th Signal Regiment in 2014. It is also held by the Mercian Regiment and the late Walter Stranz.

Jordan and Cian Adams said: "We are incredibly honoured and humbled to receive the Freedom of the Borough from our hometown. We're proud to call Redditch home and grateful to Redditch Borough Council for this incredible recognition. We hope it helps shine an even brighter light on dementia and the urgent need for greater awareness and research."

Leader of Redditch Borough Council, Councillor Matt Dormer, said: "This will be a landmark moment for Redditch. The FTD Brothers have achieved remarkable success while remaining proud ambassadors for our town, and it is only right that we recognise their contribution and make them ‘Freemen’ of the Borough.

“It is an official way for us to say, ‘well done lads, on behalf of your hometown!’”

The special council meeting will be held at 7pm on Wednesday August 26 with doors opening from 6pm. Bookings are limited to four seats per patron. Patrons will receive e-tickets which must be shown for entry on the evening. Anyone requiring a wheelchair space will need to call or visit the box office to book.

With anticipated high levels of interest in this special council meeting, residents are being urged to help things run smoothly by only attending the Palace Theatre if they have received confirmation of their seat reservation.
