Hello, I’m Hanna and I attended PYT sessions between 2008-2012. Currently, I am in my third year at the University of Manchester, studying Religions and Theology. I am also a GCSE English Tutor with the Tutor Trust. When I graduate this summer, I’m hopefully going to work at a summer camp in Canada teaching drama and I’m so, so excited about it! After that, I have plans to go travelling and then I intend to do a PGCE in primary education. My time at PYT genuinely gave me some of the happiest memories of my childhood and teenage years. I started off as a very shy eight year old, but became more confident in myself and quickly made friends with people at PYT - there are a few who I still consider to be my best friends after all these years! In terms of my own social mobility, I think if it hadn’t been for PYT I would have continued to be a very shy person throughout most of my education. I have such fond memories of all the shows I performed in, from Animal Farm to Bugsy Malone, they’re something I will always remember. I have found that all the skills I learnt from PYT have been applicable to other areas of my life, so I have been able to get jobs in this country already teaching drama at summer schools. I would thoroughly recommend PYT for any children who are looking for a new and interesting hobby!
Palace Youth Theatre first and foremost conceived my passion for acting. I would not be in the position I’m in to want to pursue a career I care so deeply about if it wasn’t for my amazing experience there. Since my time at PYT, I have become a Spotlight registered Actress, gained agency representation and have been part of films such as Birmingham City Council funded film ‘BAIT’ and ‘Cleo’s Choice’ which will be shown at the Black International Film Festival. Their professionalism, knowledge and want for young people to open up and explore the extremes within themselves, makes it a very unique and wonderful group to be part of. The skills and confidence I enhanced at PYT have enabled me to push my talents further than just a hobby, which I would never of had before. Whether you are interested in any element of theatre or just want to grow as a person, PYT has a lot to offer and I have a lot to thank them for.
