Do you have a story to share about the Palace Theatre’s past or some old Theatre memorabilia that you think we should see?

If so why not come along to one of our tea and tales sessions in the Theatre’s bar/lounge area.

Share your memories and mementos over a cup of tea with our Heritage Officer on one of the following dates:-

Tuesday 13th May 10.30am-12.30pm
Tuesday 10th June 2.00pm-4.00pm
Tuesday 9th September 2.00pm-4.00pm

Volunteers…Calling all past and present Theatre staff and volunteers

The present Palace Theatre team are organising an event in search of past Theatre employees and volunteers in the hope of gathering new stories and memorabilia about the newly refurbished venue.
 
If you have worked or volunteered at the Palace over the years why not join us for a night of reminiscence, a glass of wine and a canapé on June 19th from 7pm – 9.30pm
There will be plenty of opportunities to share your experiences and stories with other past and present members of staff and many volunteers.
The occasion will also provide all visitors with an ideal opportunity to tour the new gleaming auditorium, especially if you have not had the chance to call in and visit us yet!

Explore one of the nation’s prime examples of Edwardian architecture by renowned designer Bertie Crewe. Book a guided tour or talk of the refurbished auditorium and discover a colourful history to the buildings past as well as its present.

FeaturesPalace Features in New Book 

‘Old Theatres of the Midlands’ was launched at the Palace in March 2008  and is an interesting historical record of theatres, past and present from across the region.

Author Terry Kirtland takes a nostalgic look back and a positive look forward at these palaces of entertainment, as they meet the needs of new audiences.
While the book examines those old buildings which have passed on, it also features remaining old Theatre’s which still provide the very best
entertainment today.

A rare chance to join Redditch Arts Circle in the Palace Theatres Auditorium for a guided drawing session.
Be inspired by the burgundy and gold auditorium, the work of architect Bertie Crewe. Then take time to create your own designs with the help of artists from Redditch Arts Circle.

Ghosts, Murders and Scandals a talk by local author Anne Bradford

Hear about naughty monks, the Earl who had to seek sanctuary in Bordesley Abbey, the Forge Mill needle worker who drowned for love of her boss, the eminent needle masters who went to prison, the Palace Theatre ghost and many other old tales bringing the history of the town to life.

Be lead on an interesting tour of Pitcher Oak Woods by Officers from the Borough Councils Countryside and Landscaping department.
A good opportunity to spot some wildlife and find out more about the history of the woodland, and how it has been managed in the past, right up until the present day.

Eye of a Needle Half Term Activities

Join Indigo Arts at the Palace Theatre as they teach you some songs and dance steps from their production of Eye of a Needle.
Become a needle worker for the afternoon and spy on part of the Palace Theatre that used to be a needle factory, wearing your very own pointers hat and costume!
