Work placement / internship opportunity working as a member of the technical team at Redditch Palace Theatre. www.redditchpalacetheatre.co.uk

The Palace Theatre once again is recruiting for two students who are looking at taking a gap year work placement program within the work place and have a primary interest in audio, live sound and technical theatre (i.e. Live sound, lighting, staging, flying). These could be music, media, sound engineering, music technology students who have an interest in this area and who are looking at building on their studies with more hands on experience, they ideally will have just completed a course in one of the above disciplines or be in the second year of a degree programme looking for a gap year work placement.

The placement will work with the technical department on a daily basis assisting with shows mainly concentrating on live sound but the opportunity will exist to work in all aspects of technical theatre. Training will be given as they go along to aid their learning and for the right candidate they will have the opportunity to set up, mix and run sound for live events and we aim for them to be doing this by around November time, or earlier if they feel confident in doing so.

Job spec:

  • To assist the Technical department in ensuring that the Palace Theatre is properly maintained and serviced for Theatre productions.
  • To assist with the legal system checks and maintenance of the building.
  • To assist in the technical rigging, technical operation (i.e. lighting, sound, follow spots etc.) of productions staged at the Palace Theatre.
  • To assist when necessary the building of stage sets, including painting etc.
  • To ensure that all Health & Safety Regulations are adhered to.
  • To undertake such other duties as may be required by the Theatre Manager.
  • To work un-sociable hours including late evenings.

Suitable degree programmes:

  • Audio and Music Technology
  • Creative Music Technology
  • Please note this work placement is only offered in line with your course and must be taken into consideration towards your final grade and assessment.

Placement length: At least 36 weeks as required to for fill Gap year requirements.

Salary: Expenses will be paid up to £2000 for successful candidate completing probationary period of 8 weeks, subject to suitability paid work on the pantomime is also likely as part of the placement for the whole of December around £1,500 for the right candidate.

The right candidates will have completed 2 years of a suitable degree course and be looking to take a placement between 2nd and 3rd year. Knowledge of audio technologies is vital as the placement will specialise in this area.
